Marble texture

In this blog I will show you a very quick and simple method to create a marble texture in Adobe Photoshop.

Rather watch the video with instructions? Then click here to open the video or scroll down to the end of this page.

Step 1: Preparations

First create a new file with a white background. My file is 1920 x 1080 pixels (resolution 300). You can use a different file size, but the marble effect will look different then.

Create a new layer. Then navigate to ‘Filter > Render > Clouds‘. After you did that, navigate to ‘Filter > Render > Difference clouds‘. Your image should now look similar to the one below.

Then go to ‘Image > Adjustments > Levels‘. You can find the settings I used in the image below. Copy these settings.

Press CTRL+J to duplicate the marble layer. Then press CTRL+T to activate free transform. Right click on the image and select ‘rotate 180°‘.

Step 2: Marble effect

Change the blend mode of the top layer to ‘screen‘. You will now see the marble effect!

If you want to adjust the marble pattern, select the top layer and press CTRL+T to activate free transform. You can now make this layer larger and rotate it a bit. Make sure the layer covers the entire canvas!

And that’s how you create a marble texture in Adobe Photoshop!
